I said in a previous thread our mid formation was wrong from the off but it still should've been good enough to win this match. I attended this game last night with my eldest son and must say I don't rate QOS at all - the 1-3 score line was unrepresentative of what was played in the 90 mins. They'll be a good draw for another quarter finalist IMO! But reflecting on the game itself - it reminded me of last season's Morton match at ER when it was all too easy in the 1st 30 mins of the game and we know what happened after that! Hibs took the lead with that Hanlon goal, should've finished off this average QOS side with goals from Holt and Fontaine (as described in a previous thread - absolute sitters!). IMO then it turned into a 'bounce match' when Hibs tried to do enough and maybe 'sneak' another goal. When Steven Dobbie came on, nobody in the Hibs management team or Hibs team had the gumption to at least recognise a threatening goal poacher because, up to their 1st goal, they offered very little goal threat whatsoever. My son got it right as soon as Dobbie came on to reasonable applause from the Hibs support!!!!
Re Hibs midfield, Bartley is a defensive mid player who needs a more dynamic mid player(s) to work alongside him. McGeouch provides that and Fyvie is another option (if fit). Also I'll be deeeeeelighted if Hendo returns to ER in the next couple of days. I think this match also provided Lennon with some answers re the form of certain players and he's got an experienced goalie who will hopefully play a big part in strengthening a defence that should not be losing the kinda avoidable goals that we observed last night. A solid 'wipe out' of the Pars on Saturday in front of a big Hibs crowd will be 'just the ticket' to push on with a serious league campaign. Nothing else will be acceptable and I expect it to happen with a different Hibs line up.
Lastly I must comment on the match referee and his decision-making re the Hamill 'incidents'. The guy had a reasonable match but, at 1-0 for Hibs in the second half, he totally kopped out of issuing a second yellow card to that minion, Hamill, for a clear, cynical foul on David Gray!!! Most of the fans in the East Stand stood up in utter amazement and protest at that refereeing kop out - an easy decision to make re persistent fouling anyway - a shocker!! Seconds later, the QOS manager subbed Hamill and we saw what happened after that!!!
I don't believe QOS would've scored any goals had that referee done his job properly in that instance.
