Microsoft have also done a dirty trick where if you hit the X to close the update prompt, it still downloads and installs the update.
I'm on Windows 8. I logged on last week and it said that my update was going to happen on the Thursday so I worked out how to stop it and backed up just in case it went ahead anyway.
