Now, the problem I have with McLean is the way he changed his style of refereeing after criticism early this season. He refereed a youth tournament in Portugal (I think) and was slated for over-officiating and sending some players off when he should have used some common sense. It was suggested that he was carpeted by UEFA for his over-zealous refereeing. On his return to Scottish football, he completely changed his style, refusing to send off anyone at all, and letting the most blatant fouls go unpunished. He completely over-reacted to the advice given to him by UEFA, in my opinion. He 'shat it', in the common parlance.

I think his suitability to referee our flagship cup final is compromised by that, and that alone.
