My biggest frustration for this season is that we just have not improved or progressed. In 2014-15, we finished 13th on 44 points and scoring 38 goals, not exactly thrilling but that's what it was. With one game to go in this season, we are 15th on 42 points and scored 33 goals. Unless we beat Liverpool on Saturday (and assuming the three teams above us don't win), this is our final position. Also, I cannot see us scoring 5 on Saturday, so we'll also score fewer goals, although we may also concede slightly fewer. You could argue that a club like the Albion is likely to be a 12th - 15th finisher, although I don't see why that should be acceptable. However, given that such a position might be realistic, it should not be a given that we play the most turgid football to achieve such lofty heights. I think we could possibly accept an average finish in the table if we had some memorable moments during the season, performances and games we looked back on with pleasure.
I know we have survived another season but I feel that, in every other respect, we are going backwards. As long as Tony Pulis is manager, I think this will continue and next year will be another season of boring mediocrity. I saw a statistic at the weekend that said we were the only club in Europe's top six divisions not to win a game by two goals; add to that our record of not registering a shot on target in 7 matches this season and I'm struggling to see how things are getting better.
