This is a classic case of Transference - where you falsely attribute your own negative and wholly indefensible attitudes onto a respected source in a vain attempt at gaining some semblance of credibility.

That this particular individual uses it to try to justify his sectarian thinking speaks volumes about his thoroughly broken argument.
