We will not know what is happening, as usual, until it happens. What normally happens is that we are connected to numerous players but do nothing until the death throws of the transfer window - hopefully, this season, we will do business a little earlier. There are signs that we might be trying.
Extending the contracts of existing, elder statesmen, players is not a stupid thing. They do have a transfer value after all and if anyone comes sniffing for them we can demand a transfer fee. I guess that if the scouts find the younger versions then we might still offer them for sale despite the new contracts - it's sensible business steps.
We are safe, despite the maths suggesting we are not and I have no doubt (famous last words) that Tony Pulis will be our manager for next season. He has done an excellent job as far as a the person paying his wages is concerned and he has earned his bonus and has a right to prepare and build upon this season.
It might be a more glacial transformation rather than the revolution at Leicester but we are in the Premier League for another season, we have new Sky money to spend and there is a chance, a glimmer of hope, that we might field a younger and stronger team next season.
I have watched the Albion splutter, collapse, wow and display the odd flashes of brilliance over 50 years - for the youngster among us, that means this season has delivered an above average satisfaction rating!
