As MNT said, the Rooney Rule in the NFL requires teams to interview a minority candidate for every coaching job they have available. The candidates that are interview in American Football are announced as well by all teams, so there is not the secrecy around appointments like you see in football. It does not mean any quota regarding hiring has to be met, it is just the interview, and the idea is that it gives minority coaches the opportunity to impress during an interview when otherwise they would not even get that chance.

Having said all that I am not sure how successful it is deemed to be!!
