West Ham winger Michail Antonio has revealed that he was close to joining West Brom from Nottingham Forest in the summer before West Ham came in and hijacked the deal.

Antonio was born and raised in London, which is one of the major reasons why he decided to join West Ham but he has admitted that he thought he was making the move to Tony Pulis’ side before the Hammers came in with a late bid of around £7million.

Speaking to Mark Chapman on the BBC’s Monday Night Club radio show, Antonio spoke about the interest from the Baggies and also how West Ham swooped in at the last minute.

He said:

I thought I might be signing for West Brom, there was loads of links, but nothing with West Ham. I didn’t really hear anything until I basically signed the contract, it came out of the blue. [West Brom] put a bid in and I thought I would end up in Birmingham, but now I’m in London, back home.
