I will admit that my views on Pulis may not be the most balanced - I hated his style of football at Stoke and don't buy into his apparent change at Palace which certainly wasn't on show against us in the cup. I was against his appointment and am not at all surprised by where we now find ourselves - probably safe in the league but forced to endure negative, dull defensive football. What shocked me yesterday was what has happened to the mood of our fans. I used to travel regularly in the dark days of the 80's and 90's and invariably enjoyed the days out - even our worst defeats (e.g. Halifax in the cup) were met with a degree of dark humour. Yesterday however there was a palpable undercurrent of anger even before we went behind and I believe the source of this anger is our style of football and the frustration of seeing a premier league team being outplayed by an apparently more skilful, more adventurous, more creative lower division team.....again. What happened after the game was unforgivable but sadly not too surprising. I see that in an official statement the club has asked for the supporters to get behind the team against Palace - I would say to them that they also have a duty to their paying customers to play the game in a way that helps us get behind them, try entertaining us for a change.
I don't expect this to happen of course. One thing I do know is that if Pulis is still there next year, I won't be. And after around 30 years of having a season ticket, that's a hard thing to write.
