I'd either still go to the vine as the atmosphere and food is really good. I wouldn't bother as much with the royal oak. I'd probably go the fanzone which is literally 15 seconds from the ground by the Birmingham Road / Halfords Lane corner. They have the game on huge screens and the atmosphere is good there too.
Only problem can be if it's rainy or you don't want to stand up for an hour or 2 there. I'd go to the Vine early, get a few plates of chicken tikka or a curry and a few drinks down you, then leave about 1.40 ish (really depends when you wanna get there) and walk the 15 mins to the ground / fanzone and watch the second half. Depends on how besotted you are with the early game and what times your working around.
Train or tram to hawthorns are both fine
