To be honest I'm not sure I'm too bothered whether or not we get O'Halloran or Diagouraga as I think in the next couple of seasons we'll need players of a better standard than that.
It's funny though - I was never a huge fan of McLeish as manager, especially after his side's domestic performances collapsed as cost cutting kicked in, but it was a hell of an achievement for him reaching the last 16 of the Champions League. Even more so when you look at the side that sealed our progress, which included Marvin Andrews, Ian Murray, Chris Burke, Hamed Namouchi and Bob Malcolm. Now I've got nothing against those guys, but at that time and the level they were at, any of those players could be realistic signings for us in our current state. And I don't think all of them would get a place in our current team. Granted we had a few players who were playing at a level above those guys, but it show that the gap between what we have right now and what we would need to play at a higher level isn't really that big.
Greater than the sum of the parts.
