My understanding is that they want him off the wage bill, so rather than the deal collapse because we were only prepared to pay him 15k a week, we agreed with Bolton to waive the transfer fee and use this money to give him the extra 5k a week that he wanted.
Not sure why its more important to get him off the wage bill than for us to pay them 750k, unless the deal would definitely be off if this compromise wasn't met.
This one will get Pei's blood boiling, but at least that will keep him warm in the cold Canadian winter!!!!!!
