During Fleetwood's accelerating plunge they played Wood at Centre Back. Now we are heading in the same direction. We did need defensive cover. We didn't need a ponderous centre back. I wonder why even Rotherham don't want him. Surely that's a clue. What is particularly bizarre to me is that he is exactly the type of player Deano would have taken to the cleaners as a player.
Same unimaginative team turned out last night. Got outplayed.
At a wiser club Saturday would be the last chance saloon for Deano ..... and Swindon beat Walsall last night. I don't expect howling success. This IS Chesterfield, but I do hope for some way forward, promise of better, a way of playing developing, some straw to clutch at. And I'm afraid nothing in Deano's record, or his time with us, suggests anything like that. Even his overall success rate as a manager is skewed by time spent taking Wrexham and Doncaster clear at the top of their divisions ..... before plunging them to obscurity .... even Wolves experienced that same death spiral we've also entered from which he seems perenially unable to pull out.
We have time to avoid relegation if we act now. If we wait till Christmas it won't be Santa and Jingle Bells for us, it'll be The Black Angel's Death Song (Velvet Underground).
Listening to DA's interview I don't think Saunders will be sacked if we get relegated.
