Chesterfield make there first visit to Broadhurst Park for the 1st round of the FA Cup, this will be the first ever encounter between FC United Of Manchester and Chesterfield since FC United were set up in 2005.
Who are FC United?
FC United are a semi-professional team who currently play in the National League North. They were formed in 2005 by Manchester United supporters who opposed Malcolm Glazer's takeover of Manchester United, the team are owned and democratically run by supporters and volunteers. In 2005 they entered the North West Counties League Division Two and won the league in there first season, in there second season they were champions of North West Counties League Division One and were promoted to the Northern Premier League Division One, in there third season they won promotion to the Northern Premier League via the playoffs. They made the Northern Premier League playoffs in 4 consecutive seasons three times they were runners up. In 2015 they finally won promotion from the Northern Premier League to the National League North beating Stourbridge 1-0 to become champions. Since they were formed in 2005 up until 2014 FC United ground shared at Bury's Gigg Lane and played at several other clubs grounds including Altrincham's Moss Lane, Radcliffe Borough's Stainton Park, Hyde United's Ewen Fields, Stalybridge Celtic's Bower Fold and Curzon Ashton's Tameside Stadium before moving into their own stadium Broadhurst Park in May 2015 which is situated in Moston.
FC United have history in the FA Cup they made the first round proper in 2010 and beat Rochdale 3-2 at Spotland. In the second round they were drawn away at Brighton & Hove Albion where they managed to draw 1-1 and force a replay at Gigg Lane where unfortunately they were overcome by Brighton and lost 4-0.
Played for Both
Two current Spireites Charlie Raglan and Ollie Banks both played for FC United. Raglan played for FC back in 2013-2014 where he made 38 League appearances and scored 5 goals before joining the Spireites. Ollie Banks played for FC in 2013 where he made 18 League appearances and scored 3 goals before joining the Spireites. Former Spireite Glynn Hurst played for FC United back in 2010-2011 where he made 14 League appearances and scored 10 goals.
