Yesterday was really the first time I have seen Joao in an extended appearance and a couple of things struck me. I didn't think he held the ball up as well as I have seen Nuhiu do it in previous games, but when he was able to control the initial ball, he was so much better at doing something with it. I understand that sometimes the strikers controls the ball and plays it back to the midfielder, but it was great to see Joao control it, and try to turn his defender or at least run with the ball before passing. That really makes the defense think and stops them committing too much to the original ball.
Secondly, he is raw, but he has a turn of pace and a confidence to use it that we haven't seen for a while. Personally I would prefer to play him every week and help him develop with real situations. I would also prefer to see him replaced by maybe Bus rather than Nuhiu, something slightly different rather than a poor mans version of Joao!!!
