Yes, we deserve better football. No argument there.
Yes, we have players in the squad that I know can play more expansively than they are.
Yes, it has to be a TP deliberate plan to restrict the flow and focus on defence first.
Yes, I really only got excited once, when Sess took the ball past two player on the wing, and want more of the same.
Yes, other teams seem to be able to do it and agree fully, then why can't we?
I am not a football expert. TP has been in the game a long time and JP knows how to run a tight ship - there has to be a plan. Secure the points, get to a position of strength defensively and then start expanding the play. There was an article this Sunday that suggests as much. TP talking about building from the back and his own frustration that we are not getting the ball down the wing and that we are not putting enough in the box for the strikers.
I went to the match on Saturday. McClean took the ball down the wing plenty of times but only once did he put a quality cross in. All other times they went behind the goal and into the crowd. Totally rubbish and, putting the ball into the box is what he was bought for. It was terrible.
It is still early days for me. TP kept us up last year. He bought players this summer and drilled them. They are now putting that drill into play on the pitch and are finding their feet with that style. I suspect (hope) we will see a gradual improvement as the season moves forward and so I am happy to wait trust in them all.
