It just not feasible for a City predominantly made up of what's now dubbed "The working poor" to ever be able to afford any type of leisure activity on a regular basis.
The working class can now work a 40 hour week and STILL not be able to pay the bills, disposable income doesn't even exist to many people, the majority of poor people live an illusion, Credit Card swiping at an alarming rate has become the norm in order to exist.
So, with a large population of people already succumbing to debt in order to have bread on the table, they are going to spit their dummies out a bit when they finally get some leisure time to enjoy something they love, but can't really afford it..
This isn't down to DC ripping off fans or any of that bullshit, it's simply down to working wages never, ever matching the price of inflation, for decades. It's difficult for middle to upper classes to understand this at times because struggle isn't something they're akin to. There's often the disconnect thinking " If I can do it why can't you? you must not try hard enough!"
As for those fans that CAN afford it but are just whining for the sake of it, in order to cause upset and rock the boat. They need a damn good slap and should just stay away anyway as they're not fans.
Ranted and possibly digressed a bit. Apologies. IMO a lot of this could be solved by better working wages/conditions.
