Wednesday Legend Passes.

I only saw the final season of his Wednesday career & by then, he was in decline and had lost his England number one spot to Gordon Banks.

He was the best keeper in England in the early 60s and the fact that he is not lauded (or indeed lorded) alongside Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton & Geoff Hurst is because of the rise of Gordon Banks to take his England spot in time for the 1966 World Cup triumph.

While we got the better of the swap deal, brother Peter was never in the same class as Ron but he was an able keeper for several years.
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.
