What the hell happened? Even before the sending off we were allowing them to much time on the ball and too much space and weren't closing them down. We were playing route one football knocking the ball long to Novak who was the only one upfront and getting outmuscled and fouled by the Colchester centre backs.
Now comes the sending off. What was the referee thinking? Sordell was going down before Talbot got anywhere near him and the ref was nowhere near the incident to actually see it but gave a red card anyway. After the red card we still allowed Colchester too much time on the ball and the ref was so biased it was unbelievable. First goal was a great free kick (finally after Colchester were awarded most of the decisions) by Jones and then we allowed them back into it because we were beaten at the back and they scored. Then up till half-time we parked the bus and allowed them to run and shoot at us without any one closing them down, if Tommy wasn't between the sticks it could have been 3-4 or even 5-1 at HT.
Second half started exactly the same as the first, we had 10 men behind the ball for a good 10 minutes in the second half parking the bus and what do we do when we got it punt it up the field to no one. The second goal was a good worked goal and a great counter attack by Dan Jones on the left hand side and crossed the ball into the box went past everyone and Dan Gardner followed it up and passed it to Novak to put it the net. The third goal was another good worked goal Ollie Banks set the goal up and Morsy put it away with about 20 minutes to go. Surely game over? Nope this is Chesterfield remember, never do anything the easier way.
Ball punted up long to Novak he chases it the Colchester keeper collects and puts his studs on Novak's thigh and while 2-3 Chesterfield players are appealing to the referee they carry on playing and but the ball in the net and to be fair it was a good goal but we shouldn't have switched off and should have played to the whistle. What do we do for the remaining 15 minutes? We parked the bus again and try and grind out a result but Colchester had other ideas and after taking 2 shots at Tommy Lee in injury time they took a third and it hits Raglan and goes in the net 3-3.
So the conclusion is referee's performance was inept and we played poor.
