I agree Sam was great business for us, if only because there is a limit to how much a club our size can get for a player in his mid-twenties.
I am left wondering what Hull want and expect though. They are challenging at the top of their division. Clucas didn't go to them as a flying winger, he wasn't Depay or even James Rodriguez. He's a worker, who'll do it all over the field and sweat blood for them. Versatile. And capable of sticking the ball in the onion bag, maybe ten times at Championship level .... or even covering at full back.
From our point of view it was a good deal, but from Hull's, what did they expect for £1.3 million? They are playing in the Championship, they don't need to outclass David Silva, or outsprint Hector Bellerin. They need some guys who'll be happy to work their socks off week-in week-out and contribute all over the pitch. They needed a Clucas, even if they aren't bright enough to know it.
