It'll be interesting to see how Lawwell and Desmond react to the manager. The only real task Deila has had to take on - given that winning the league should have been more or less a given for any manager coming in - was to qualify for the CL. Significantly weakened sides have even been played in league games in the last 3 years during the qualifiers, something they couldn't afford to do in the past. Deila has basically failed in Task A. He's still won a league title though albeit without his side ever looking amazing, and will do so again this season.
I recall reading about this appointment at the time and how Desmond is the man who hand-picked O'Neill, Strachan and Lennon, sometimes ahead of Lawwell's first choice, while this time round he let Lawwell make the decision. Based on that I think Lawwell will back his man fully and with as much funding as he can supply (in contrast to the diminishing amounts made available to Deila's predecessors from one season to the next) while Desmond will be itching to replace him ASAP and get someone else bedded in well ahead of next season's qualifiers.
I don't know if all the Celtic fans have ever really taken Deila to heart. Most of them were also more realistic about the danger posed by Malmo in the 2nd leg than their manager was, so I don't think they'll have much patience for him now.
