Kind of amusing that we got such pelters from that lot for losing to Malmo and then Maribor in Ally's first few matches, and now Celtic have been knocked out of the CL qualifiers by those teams in successive seasons. Seems like they had it coming with some of the comments coming out of Celtic Park and from Ronny Deila in particular. Ahead of the first tie he said it would be impossible for Malmo to stop them, and even after coming away with a slender lead and 2 away goals conceded to a weakened Malmo side he still maintained that Celtic had shown how much better they were and they would get past them no bother. Arrogant xxxx deserved that defeat.
He's also got his players playing dirty and attacking the opposition verbally on the pitch if identical complaints by both Qarabag and Malmo players are anything to go by, particularly regarding Scott Brown's behaviour. I know it always goes on to an extent in football, but for players from these sides to come out and criticise it must be particularly bad. If Deila was so sure of his side's footballing ability he wouldn't feel the need to cultivate that approach. Celtic will also be in line to pick up an umpteenth UEFA fine in recent years after getting 6 yellow cards in the 2nd leg.
I have to admit though, it's a surprise to me that Celtic have struggled to make any impact in Europe in the last few seasons when they should have been earning CL money to power further ahead financially of everyone else in Scotland. But in the last 3 years their only victory over a team ranked higher and with more resources available to them was their home win against Ajax, while they've lost plenty to teams that are on paper inferior, sometimes vastly so. In line with the trend among the rest of Scotland's teams they're going backwards rather than even standing still. CL qualification at the very least should have been assured by the qualification system which leaves them facing only 'weaker' teams. Makes me dread what it's going to be like for Rangers if we get back into Europe any time soon as we just seem to be so far behind now in Scotland that it's impossible to judge a team based on how it performs in this country.
