Hello all, its a quick turnaround from Saturdays draw against Blackburn, and once again, we are at home to another of the B teams of the league, most of the league seems to begin with that letter this season, this time its table topping Brighton who have yet to drop a point this season.
They come into tuesdays game on the back of a 2-1 win at the weekend away at Fulham, a Tamer Hamed penalty in stoppage time sealed the points for the seagulls, who will also arrive to yorkshire sporting a gareish luminous yellow kit, fair to say there can be no excuse for not seeing an opposing player when we give the ball away.
The seagulls have spent a few dollar this close season, with hamed being amongst a number of new signings. some of the names may be famiiliar to town fans, others not so much. amongst those not known to a lot of town fans include nikki maenapaa who is a finnish goalkeeper signed from VVV-Venlo, Gaetan bong who joined from recently relegated wigan, uwe hunemeier who is a german defender signed from paderborn as well as the previously mentioned hamed.
along with those, there are some names that town fans will know, one being jamie murphy who joined them the other week from league one side sheffield united, liam rosenoir who joined on a free transfer after being released by hull city and of course brighton legend bobby zamora who has joined them from qpr. bobby has song about his kind of magic touch, where the ball may hit your head when you are sat in row z, so for those sitting behind the goals, be warned, a hard hat may be needed especially before kick off when the teams are doing shooting practice.
The seagulls spent last season keeping us company in the lower regions of the league, but they have a talent manager in chris hughton who i feel has been largely mistreated and treated as an invisible man when he has taken the helm of clubs and is often discarded for the 'better' options by chairmen, who normally find that they have made the wrong move. i feel that maybe this season the bookies and the league have largely overlooked this side who also appear to have spent their money wisely, i feel that they could be a dark horse this season and upset a few.
anyway on to us. and three games into the season, three pretty shoddy performances and the side and chris powell already appear to be under pressure, however in all truth i can see powell being given to october regardless. there have been some who have questioned powells character, others have questioned his ability whilst others have questioned his tactics. i agree his tactics have been very negative so far but i also feel that his hands are being tied behind his back by those upstairs and it looks to be getting that difficult that even houdini himself would struggle to break free.
however, saturday showed on thing and that is that this side is capable of making a breakthru and that is something, if possibly the only thing to build upon, and once we start getting some confidence in our game, then we have got some talented players who could take the game away from sides, however, the defensive aspect of our game really does need to be cleared up with the players, i dont really like seeing players giving the opposition loads of space to run into (unless its the other side giving us the space, but then again...)
i'd like to see a better shape from our side, a solid back four could give us the miracle we need being a clean sheet. but i do feel the job will be made massively harder with the impeding transfer of alex smithies, but the show must go on and therefore i can see joe murphy once again being given the nod to start in goal on tuesday. with his back four being smith hudson lynch and davidson, and i feel they may be better suited to the actual defensive berth.
in terms of midfield i would operate with a midfield two of butterfield and hogg, with scannell, lolley and wells sat in an attacking three behind vaughan, assuming his headache has cleared up. if it hasnt i would be very tempted to bring hiwula in and play him behind wells and see if he can drag a centre half out position and create a gap for either butterfield or wells.
the bench with this squad picks itself, with allinson the back up keeper, wallace and cranie the spare defenders, whitehead and dempsey the spare midfielders, bunn the spare wideman with miller the back up centre forward.
so to clarify my team for tuesday would be

that being said i can the game going in the favour of the away side but only by the one goal, hopefully we put in a better performance that we can build on going into the rest of the season.
on a side note, i've included the titles of songs from one of my favorite bands, i'll give a rep point or whatever to whoever can spot the songs and what band it is. i think i could have done a better job in hiding the songs but still lets see who has a keen eye. ps there are 7 songs to find, but one may seem to be unfair so if no one finds it i will hold my hands up and apologise.
i also added pictures but have no idea if they joined us for the thread or whether they had other arrangements. this included the actual team lineup so if they arent there i would be grateful for any help.
over to you guys
