It was the kind of result I expected and having seen the team and 5-3-2 set up, realising who was injured, we obviously came to try not get beat, but we know how successful has that ploy been in recent times.
Our distribution was laboured ( didnt we all say that last season too) and couldnt in the first half find a way through them, so once we went behind on the break I felt it was curtains. Happily we started the 2nd half really brightly for 10 mins and Davidson should have scored but decided to blast it over high n wide at the back post, he could even have taken a touch and steady himself. Bunn looked more effective hugging the left wing, Butterfield started dictating play but we just didnt have enough guile to really trouble them. Once their Arsenal loanee fired high into the roof some of the almost sold out 2400 following were up n off home early.
Cant get too downbeat so early, a point would have been fantastic but they had a strong squad, have millions sloshing around with recent sales so will be there or thereabouts come May.
We will have to sacrifice a midfielder Hogg, B'field and Whitehead ( who was ok early but looked leggy) to bring back Scanz once fit as his pace and power was sadly lacking today, we must adapt a more positive approach to play in their half. Wells worked hard across the line but drops off deep and leaves no-one in the box, the early service to him was all pumped high and he had no chance. Smith didnt do a lot positive, silly booking got subbed, Cranie I thought was steady in a 3, Miller when he came on a lumbering lump I see pre season hasnt improved his touch.
Yes disappointing start, not end of the world stuff, change most of the team on Tuesday then try catch an undercooked Blackburn next week on the hop.
