Since you ask; No, I haven’t seen a ghost but…
…It was a snow-swept bitterly cold night in 1969 when I was trudging around between the regimented rows of wooden huts that covered a vast area of certain military camp in North Yorkshire. Guard duty at 0300hrs; feet frozen and hands tingling from the icy blast of snow laden wind blowing between the deserted buildings. Utterly alone and at least half a mile away from my mates in the warmth of the Guardroom. Suddenly I became aware of a light shining at me from between two rows of huts that stretched into the distance. The light danced; faded then grew bigger; then fainter then a perfectly circular orange glow slowly formed around it; the hairs on the back of my neck bristled! What the f--- was this?! I looked away and told myself that it was just my imagination and tiredness playing tricks…I looked back. It was larger! It was coming towards me! I then did something I later could never explain to myself; I walked towards it. It seemed to hesitate and then retreat. The snow was now a mini-blizzard and I strained my eyes to follow it, then…….I realized it was a street light shining from a barracks over a mile away that somehow had been magnified and moved by the snow that lay between it and me. Just then a hand fell across my shoulder from behind…………… and I nearly killed the bloke who had been sent out to relieve me.
