But again (as we discuss every time this subject comes up), what's in that for the new owner? Unless they're a lifelong fan who wants to squander their personal fortune just to see the club finish a few places higher - and that's a real rarity - there's just no point. The Europa League doesn't make clubs any money, and the Champions League is a closed shop.
Southampton are the current club dashing themselves against the rocks of fruitless ambition, and I reckon they're only a season or two away from the owners losing interest and the team coming a real cropper.
