but we have to beware thinking that, because a hate figure has gone, the problems are solved.
If Blatter had to be either complicit or the world's most-misled boss over what was happening (arf arf) ........ what are we to think of the rest of those at the top of world football who at best sucked it up and got on with it?
And though British football has been vocal, our World Cup bid oiled all over Jack Warner in the Caribbean though everyone knew he was the full nine-bob note. We talked to the arrested Paraguayan guy, who bizarrely demanded a knighthood and a seat in the House of Lords for his vote ......
My opinion is that, though there must be good people within FIFA, its procedure and history over forty years is so riddled with corrupt practices and thinking the whole body needs to be replaced. World football needs to form a new body - I'd brand it as The Beautiful Game - whose mission and procedures embrace transparency, honesty and fairness. It can't be the poodle of European Football, International Capital or Media Sponsors. It must develop football worldwide, not as FIFA has done by making local czars rich and feeding corruption, but by making it a peoples' game.
Do I think it will happen? Do I think Blatter will be replaced by an incorruptible? Do I think an organisation that builds on the beauty and honesty of the grassroots game will magically generate from FIFA's poisonous ashes?
I wish I could say yes.
