I think it was nice that we had a dress rehearsal for it the year before in the Autoglass Final. That was a day out. This was serious. And the players took it serious too.
I remember going in on the tube and chatting with Rovers fans, who were all a good bunch. Had a bit of a soft spot for them since and felt glad when they got back into the league this time around. It's only taken them 20 years since we beat them to actually go and win at Wembley.
After the match, we bumped into the two blokes we sat next to at Leeds Road, a strange coincidence that has happened at other Play Off Finals since. Out of all the thousands there, we always end up seeing people who sit with us at home games.
Anyway, the game itself flew by and apart from the goals, I don't remember much about it. Had a really bad headache, I remember that much.
Great relief when we won. Thankfully we were out of that league and back where we belong. We won't make the mistake of going back down there again.
And it still rankles that they wouldn't let us have a minutes silence for Harold Wilson, who had just died. When you consider they have minutes silence/applause for any excuse nowadays.
