Rethink. The competition we enter at the start of the season consists of 38 games and we know in advance that we have no chance of winning it since the top 6 clubs will dominate everything. The only excitement is the possibility of finishing mid-table (yawn).
But…we now have a REAL competition. The bottom seven teams ALL have the possibility of survival or relegation. Let us, for the moment, listen to the Devil’s Advocate and say that Leics will win all their remaining 7 games; Burnley will win all their’s (except the one against Leics); QPR win all their’s….etc, etc…BUT The Albion loose all their remaining games!!! Then the table could end up like this:-
Newcastle and Everton 50pts
Villa 47
Leics 46
Sund 44
Hull 43
Burnley 41
QPR 38
WBA 33
An extreme possibility as this includes all the top teams being systematically beaten by these struggling teams but…..Leics have only Chelsea to face with all the rest of their games clearly winnable. Whereas The Albion have a nightmare run-in. In fact, it makes me wonder what the current odds are for Leics to survive the drop..might be worth a flutter? In all seriousness though I think the final points table will be very, very close and therefore more interesting than the rest of the season put together.
