Can’t say that I’m particularly overjoyed by this appointment as it’s just as big of a risk as Mason was, but it does show that the club have belief in the project and long term plan that’s being put in place as it’s almost a like for like replacement. The squad is younger, as intended, some of the youth players have been brought through, the coaching staff is young and fresh etc.
Something that worries me is his Minnesota team played with 5 defenders, and from what I’ve read were primarily a counter attacking side, and sit very deep defensively. Now, I’ve read on Reddit from some of their fans about how he wanted to play attacking football when he took over and then changed to the defensive shape because of what he had at his disposal. I hope he isn’t going to come to the Albion and do a Ruben Amorim and try to shoehorn this team into playing with 5 defenders as it won’t suit the team and players that we have.
That adaptability shown to find a setup for the players there is a good sign though, so hopefully he can do that with us. I don’t think Mason had that in his locker.
