Didn't see the game today, so not going to pass judgement on any of the performance for the best part. I've only seen the goals.
When I saw the starting line up, it was exactly as I called it in the Blues thread. I said that he would probably bring in Illing-Junior for one of the wingers and continue with Price in the 10. Sure enough, Grant the result of his coin toss for who was dropped this week. As expected, everything else from an attacking point of view stayed the same despite us being totally impotent.
Believe it or not, I do not know Mason; he's just that predictable...
However, what I didn't predict was his half time changes. To change 4 players, including defenders, suggests that he knew it was do or die for him. To sacrifice Issac Price, clearly his favourite, shows how desperate he was. And without seeing the game, I don't know if was lucky or deserved, but with 2 proper strikers on, we've managed to score 3 goals in a half. We hadn't even mustered a goal per game all season long with 1 up top and Price monopolising the 10.
We'll see if this is the turning point for Mason. If this is what makes him wake up and smell the coffee. If this is what makes him realise that attack is the best form of defence. If he realises that we can be more dangerous with 2 strikers and that we can't continue to carry Price as a 10.
Time will tell, but I suspect it will just save his bacon for the time being. Make no mistake, the only reason he made the changes today was because it was do or die.
As for what I did see, the goals, I thought both of the Swansea goals were goalkeeping errors. The first, I have no idea what he was doing in no man's land. The second, I'd have been gutted if I let that in during my 5 minute goalkeeping rotation in 5 a side.
I'm not sure if we were that bad in the first half or if those schoolboy errors cost us.
As for our goals, Heggebo's first was probably the first time I've seen a midfielder get that high up the pitch to roll a ball into his feet in that area. Clearly Mowatt was only that high because we were chasing the game. I always felt that if our midfield got higher and gave Heggebo that sort of service he would be a threat because it's clear the lad is strong, can pin defenders and play. It was good to see what he can do when he's given proper service.
If this isn't proof that we need to be brave and stop the negativity, I don't know what is.
