Plymouth Argyle have signed forward Lorent Tolaj from Port Vale on a four-year deal.

Tolaj, 23, joins for an undisclosed fee, but the Pilgrims confirmed they activated a "substantial release clause" in his three-year contract at Vale Park.

He was pivotal to Vale's promotion charge as they finished second in League Two last season, scoring 14 goals in 37 games, a year on from a successful spell in the National League with Aldershot.

Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley described Tolaj's rise up through the footballing pyramid as "monumental".

"Wherever he has been he has shown he is a proven goal scorer, with an incredible record at every club and we are confident he will translate that to an Argyle shirt," Cleverley told the club website, external.

"I've been vocal throughout the window that we wanted the right number nine in the building, and although it has taken longer than we all would have hoped, I couldn't be happier that we have managed to bring Lorent to the club."

The Switzerland youth international becomes Cleverley's 13th signing of the summer transfer window.

Plymouth have signed Danish defender Mathias Ross on a three-year deal.

Ross, 24, most recently played in the Turkish league for 25-time champions Galatasaray, for whom he managed just two appearances in three seasons.

The Danish youth international spent last season on loan at Sparta Prague and featured in their Champions League campaign, after a previous loan spell at Dutch side NEC Nijmegen.

Argyle manager Tom Cleverley said he was "delighted" with the club's 12th signing of the summer.

"Mathias joins with excellent pedigree having played plenty of games at a high level, considering he is still only 24," Cleverley told the club website, external.

"He will complement our squad perfectly and challenge our current defenders for a place in the team.

"I want to welcome him to Argyle and look forward to seeing him in action very soon."

Ross will wear the number two shirt, and the deal is subject to a work permit, EFL approval and international clearance.
Why should a man go to work, if he has the health and strength to stay in bed?
