League Cup 2025

To be honest I thought the actual performance was better than Saturday. We played more football and created more. However, that might just be because it was against Derby's second string.

Should've won easily really. But fair play to Derby, they stuck in the game and hit us with the sucker punch to get the draw at the end.

I'm not really sure how they were able to score a direct free kick from that angle. Don't get me wrong, it was a nice strike, but surely that has to go down as a goalkeeping error. We really could do with signing an experienced, steady keeper.

In terms of positives, Williams did well on his debut and I liked the look of George Campbell. He looked quick, committed and accomplished on the ball.

Obviously we have to take the quality of opposition into account, but what I saw of Campbell far exceeded my expectations for what we paid.

Going forward, Price was good again and Johnston was exciting. Good to see Maja back and Heggebo get on the scoresheet.

I appreciate Johnston can be frustrating at times, but IMO that's because he's always trying to go forward and create, rather than picking the "safe" ball. When you keep going at your man, it's not always going to come off. But personally, I wish a few other players had the same desire to play forward like he does. Hope he can work his way back into the starting XI soon, I think he offers a lot more than Karlan Grant.

Result wise, not overly bothered tbh. While it would be nice to have a cup run, I don't think it's really worth it with a paper thin Championship squad. At least now we can concentrate on securing our spot in the division.

Also assuming Heggam is off as he wasn't included at all. Fingers crossed that frees up cash for additions.
