Early season, murkiness, it's cross over time in the year of sport when football league seasons beging, the North west Counties kicked into action with a game between newly promoted Euxton Villa and Prestwich Heys.
Visitors Prestwich were last seen by yours truly more than 50 years ago when they lost at Victory Park Chorley, think it was a Cheshire League encounter although might be wrong on that.
The visitors ground can be seen from the M62 if you are heading over to the dark side, famous folks from that area Mark E Smith, 50% of 10CC and Victoria Wood.
It was my second visit to Euxton, since the last visit the ground has had improvement, a new stand down the road side, they had moves the Blind Tiger Inns stand from the side to behind the clubhouse goal, obviously those blind tigers had difficulty seeing from the side. Floodlights were now installed and they had put down a plastic pitch.
Never been a fan of this suface having witnessed seven years of footbal on the one at Deepdale, however improvements have been made this one didn't seem to be as fast and the bounce of the bal was fairly consistent.
Disappointingly Heys were not playing in purple(take your time) they started the better of the two sides forcing one save from home keeper Lombard, slightly against the run of play the home side took the lead, routine corner into the six yard box caused chaos, Brown, the visitors keeper didn't collect it and the ball was bundled i at the back post by Wyers-Roebuck, should have been two a minute later break down the left, Kent into the box with tea mates spare his shot hit the keeper and was cleared,

Heys regained their composure and forced Lombard to an excellent finger tip save just before the break.
The scores were level after the break, two attempts to head home by Tinker, keeper got a hand to the second couldn't keep it out, all one way as Heys went for a second only really one clear chance, Appleton tame effort was saved by Lombard. As the game got into the later stages the intensity and fiestiness had gone as players understandibly tired, with the next to last kick of the game Heys substitute Bardsley-Rowe through on goal, weak shot saved by the foot of Lombard and with that the referee blew his whistle
