As the players took to the pitch to start the game at 1 pm the only thing in the sky apart from the sun was the San Francisco to Heathrow regular service, as the plane sped towards it's destination, Withnell Fold batted first after wnning the toss.
First time I have been to this neck of the woods to see a game, surprised that the actual playing surface is absolutely massive, decent club house, electric scoreboard which on the day wasn't working, so it was back to tins. The ground is situated to one side of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, no sign of Robbie Cummings and his Naughty Lass. Behind one end is the Preston to Ormsirk railway and about 100 yards from the ground is the Manchester to Southport line, it was only missing the Titfield Thunderbolt to complete he picture.
A wicket that looked white offered a bit to the bowlers, both pace and spin, Withnell never really got going, highest score from batsmen was 17, Modessa was unlucky given run out, although not level with the wicket I thought he was in as did the batsman.
Murray left hand medium pace bowled well, Hughes took three wickets with well flighted spin. The total of 100 looked short and so it proved.
Wicket from the first ball of the reply, liked to say it was a great catch but wasn't watching, so missed it, Atherton and Murray basically put the game to bed with a partnership of 67, plenty of shouts for LBW by the excitable visitors, the umpires were not for giving. One more wicket was lost before the game was won by the home side. As the game ended the tempreture in downtown Burscough was 86 degrees after 5pm in the afternoon.

Why should a man go to work, if he has the health and strength to stay in bed?
