Goalkeeper Joe McDonnell has returned to AFC Wimbledon on a two-year contract after five years away.

The 31-year-old rejoins the Dons on a free transfer from Eastleigh, where he made 230 appearances.

Owen Goodman, last season's number one between the sticks for Johnnie Jackson's side, returned to Crystal Palace at the end of his season-long loan.

The Wombles beat Walsall in the League Two play-off final at Wembley in May to seal promotion to the third tier.

McDonnell made 34 appearances for Wimbledon in six seasons with the club from 2014 to 2020.

The club have since moved to Plough Lane at the purpose-built Cherry Red Records Stadium, having previously played at Kingsmeadow during his first spell.

"As soon as this option came up I jumped at the chance," he told the club's website, external.

"To be part of Wimbledon again is a great opportunity. I'm yet to visit Plough Lane, so I'm excited for that experience – it's an incredible stage for the club.

"This is a club like no other because of the fans we have, I can't wait to see some familiar faces again."

Wimbledon begin the League One campaign away to Luton Town on Friday, 1 August.

AFC Wimbledon attacking midfielder Marcus Browne has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

The 27-year-old joined the Dons as a free agent in January and has scored three goals in 21 appearances.

Browne started and played 90 minutes before being replaced in added time as the Wombles beat Walsall at Wembley to earn promotion to League One via the play-offs.

"I'm really pleased to be staying here. It's a great club full of amazing people, great coaching staff and a great group of lads," he told the club website, external.

"It's going to be an exciting and eventful season. One which I'm really looking forward to."

Browne follows Ryan Johnson and Sam Hutchinson in committing his future to Wimbledon, while Steve Seddon and Joe McDonnell have re-signed for the club.

The Dons have also brought in Alistair Smith from Lincoln City on a permanent deal following his successful loan spell last season.

They begin the League One season away to Luton Town on Friday, 1 August, kick-off at 20:00 BST.
