Gillingham centre-back Conor Masterson has signed a new one-year deal with the League Two club.

The 26-year-old has made 112 appearances across three spells with Gills, scoring nine goals.

Masterson played 26 games in all competitions as the Kent-based club finished 17th in the league last season.

"I know the club inside out, I have played my best football here and I am excited to get going again," he told the club website, external.

"I have a connection with the fans. We are all hungry now for next season; we know what we want and we'll take it one game at a time and focus on ourselves."

Gillingham have signed former Wales striker Sam Vokes on a one-year deal following his release by Wycombe Wanderers.

The club have also captured centre-back Andy Smith on a three-year deal from Hull City following the 23-year-old's loan move last season.

Vokes scored 30 goals in 144 appearances for the Chairboys, having previously twice won promotion to the Premier League with Burnley under Sean Dyche.

The acquisitions follow forward Seb Palmer-Houlden's move from Bristol City in May.

Vokes reunites with head coach Gareth Ainsworth, who he worked with for two years at Adams' Park and reached the League One play-off final in 2022.

"It's great, it's exciting, and I am looking forward to pre-season getting underway," Vokes told the club's website, external.

"I spoke to the manager a few times over the summer, we know each other well. Being right and ready to go on that first game is what it's all about now."

Vokes began his career at Bournemouth before moving to Wolverhampton Wanderers and has also played for Stoke City in a career spanning 19 years.

He made his debut for Wales in 2008 and represented his country at Euro 2016, scoring in a 3-1 win against Belgium.

Smith made 12 appearances in all competitions on loan from Hull last season.

"Ever since I knew there was a chance I could back permanently, I spoke to my agent and said I wanted to get it done straight away," he said, external.

"I really enjoyed my time here last season and I am looking forward to kicking on now."
Why should a man go to work, if he has the health and strength to stay in bed?
