The latest name going around is former stoke city and manure keeper lee grant, he's currently first team coach at Ipswich and credited as one of the best striker coaches, just ask Freddie, he scored 20 goals with his help.
Sounds like his striker coaching all comes down to telling the attackers what goalkeepers don't want and what cues they are looking for, which I guess makes quite a lot of sense, it does happen a lot more in other sports.
His son is at man city, also a goalkeeper and He also had a spell at Sheffield Wednesday during his career, played the highest number of games in his career there, unless you count two stints at derby together. Finished as coach/3rd keeper at manure at the end of his career, working with Jose and then ole, before picking the brains of McKenna whilst working together there and following him to Ipswich.
It's out of the box and personally if I was going out of the box it would be Brian barry-murphy purely for his experience and tutorage in the city group. But grant has or should have learnt something from Jose and has been part of a coaching group that went from league one to prem, McKenna is a highly talented young coach and it won't be long before he's moving onto a higher job, no disrespect to Ipswich but I think he will go to a higher ceiling than they.
Overall, I wouldn't be against an appointment like this, far more in favour of it than going for a Stephen Robinson or Wayne Rooney who have either tried and failed in Rooney's case or struggled at a lower level in England but done relatively well in Scotland (lower standard debate ensues) in Robinson's case. IF Grant is to be the guy, then the dof needs to be high on his game, a track record to match and well contacted.
Wilson is the name being mentioned, when he was here originally he did okay, first of his kind at the club, did some good wheeling and dealing with the likes of lynch, Butterfield, Coady etc but couldn't fully grasp the management side believe he went Grayson, robins and Powell before leaving. Had a few years at saints and rangers before going to forest and essentially learned different markets to raid ie Portugal and Brazil, it would be interesting to see who he brought in when at saints, could he have coincided with mane and vvd, not sure.
