I've missed more games in the second half of this season than ever. Lots of family and work commitments, hence my lack of posting.
I've caught the highlights of everything, but I've not seen too many full games.
But those games I have seen in full - Blackburn at home, Burnley away, Bristol City away and Coventry away today - we've been largely appalling.
Clearly Mowbray is getting it wrong with some of the team selections and lack of continuity. The fact we can't string two wins together has lead to him constantly changing the side. But I can't help feeling that you need to decide your best XI and persist with it, even in defeat, if you want performances to improve.
That said, I don't think he can take the entire blame. The squad he has inherited is poor. Not only do we lack good footballers with the ability to pass, move, look after the ball and create; we also lack any real desire to push on and win games. There's plenty of blood and thunder and players who are happy to chase; but little quality. Mowbray was never a manager to excel with that style.
Plus we have to ask ourselves, would Corberan have even left us in the playoff position had he spent half a season without John Maja like Mowbray has? Personally, I think the early season form of Fellows and Maja was papering over the cracks.
And for that reason, I'm not sure if anyone could get anything out of this squad...
Our midfield is so passive. No legs. Equally as bad defensively as they are going forward.
We don't seem to have any belief that we can push forward and win games and seem all too content to tip tap around at the back. I'm not sure it comes from the manager, I think we lack winners on the pitch.
And out goalkeeping personnel look as dodgy as they come. This position alone has probably cost us a playoff place.
Clearly we need a massive rebuild with the likes of Swift, Jed, Grady and others out of contract and off...
Others will no doubt be sold too, if anyone is daft enough to buy them.
Is Mowbray the man for the rebuild? On the evidence we've seen since his return, maybe not. But at the same time, we have to acknowledge that he has been dealt a pretty sh*te set of cards and he does have a good track record at this level with better players. So who knows.
Whether it is Mowbray or another, it'll be a tough job. Shopping around the bargain basement with no money to bolster a squad that has little in the way of quality to start with.
