The frost is deep and crisp and even down these parts today. To my knowledge they don't have undersoil heating so you would hope they've taken other measures to try and protect the pitch. I've got a ticket for the match but I'm holding off buying a train ticket for now.

Night time temperatures for the next few days will be well below freezing and daytime temperatures will hardly induce a thaw. There's also a chance of rain/snow falling on frozen ground on Saturday morning. If you can't get a full refund for cancelling Saturday morning I'd hold off. There's plenty of accomodation in Shrewsbury, Telford, Bridgnorth, Wolverhampton at weekends, with all but Bridgnorth well served by public transport if needed.

PS - with a Railcard, it's £8.55 return between Wolvo & Shrewsbury. West Midlands trains run every hour and stop at all intermediate stations. Arriva Wales trains also run every hour between the WN trains but only stop at Wellingon and Telford. You can get a few pence off if you only use the AW trains. You could always do an improvised ale trail and spend the afternoon/evening in deep refreshment.

The Mrs wants to stay in Shrewsbury, apparently it has lots of things to see. Haven’t booked anyaccommodation yet (to the best of my knowledge) I’m tempted to book the premier inn to the North which you can cancel until 1pm on the day and shift our plans from Saturday to Tuesday rather than Friday - Monday.

As you say the temperature may struggle to defrost the frozen pitch especially as it’s going to be post lunch by the time we reach + temperatures
