My thoughts exactly, the recent borrowing of Baker ( one of Chelsea's starlets no less) an.d deciding that Maguire et all were still better, giving the lad little to no game time possibly resulted in the great one recalling him.
I highly doubt any Prem manager that needs their youngsters playing regular football have us in mind after SG's consistent series of brain farts. It's more likely that he's burned his bridges or has limited contacts, no one is willing to let SG ruin their player by either playing them out of position or destroy their confidence by making them watch dire football from the bench...
Bakers dad is an Owl, I'm going to go out on a limb and say Baker would have wanted to impress his dad with a good performance, had he ever really been given a chance. Instead we played Maguire? Who is more likely to have put in a graft?
