A drop in the gate of 12000 from the cup tie on Monday night as only proper full time fans turned up for the match. North End in the end eased to victory although if Scunthorpe had taken their early chances they possibly could have kept up their decent recent run.
North End gave a classic after the Lord Mayo's show in the first half being way off the pace against the green shirted visitors. Three times the Iron had chances to go ahead, O'Neill going narrowly wide from 40 yards with keeper Johnstone out of position after a poor clearance, also Hopper should have buried a header but didn't. North End got into the game and were creating chances but were wasting them. Garner looked slightly off the pitch and North End's airborne tactics were not helping.
North End were lucky early in the second half, Madden went close and Gallagher also cleared a shot from the line, i was the last time Scunny got close.
The home side took the lead with a goal created at Villa Park, Robinson was played in down the left hand side and the lVilla loan player squared the ball to his ex Villa team mate Johnson to score from close range.
Pressure valve released North End started to play better and fourteen minutes later were rewarded with a second goal. Robinson down the left again fired in a shot, keeper Daniels could not hold Humphrys crossed the rebound, Gallagher didn't miss. Game more or less over.
A workmanlike rather than spectacular performance, three points and another home game to come on Tuesday.

Why should a man go to work, if he has the health and strength to stay in bed?
