at the Den

Huddersfield Town travel to Bermondsey, south-east London to the New Den on Saturday afternoon for a big six pointer. Both teams have the same number of points, just one above QPR and the dreaded drop zone.

A Twitter statement from Uncle Kev:

Town's American owner Kevin Nagle, has spoken out tonight on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, but now inexplicably just called X. Obviously, he should've started with "I can't speyk!" , but here's what the big man had to say.....

Quote:Town Supporters:

A few things-

I don’t like to communicate when I’m angry/frustrated, but after taking a deep breath I can tell you that not only do I hear you as always, but I share your frustration.

As I see it, supporters need something to support, and being honest- there’s not much there right now when it comes to results and entertainment on the pitch.

I am looking forward to arriving on 4 January, and I will be there with boots on the ground the entire month.

I will be there to ask tough questions of EVERYONE, from players to management to executives. And I will answer the tough questions posed my way as well.

I will be there for the entirety of the transfer window, as we will be strategic, surgical, and aggressive in trying to bring in the talent we need.

You are the customers, you spend your time and hard earned money to escape from the realities of the world for a few hours a week, and in return you deserve a product worthy of your time and money.

To be frank, we are not currently holding up our end of the bargain.

I’m not interested in blame, or fault, I’m only interested in identifying and assessing problems, and solving them as quick as possible.

That doesn’t mean we will always see eye to eye, but I can promise you as you spend your time and money on the club, I will be doing the exact same.

We will get through this, and we WILL build a sustainable winning club you can be proud of.

That’s everything.

As always thank you, this is YOUR club, and I am here to have your back.

I look forward to seeing many of you in person next month.

KN

Any thoughts on this?

Head to Head

Town lead the head to head with 25 wins to Millwall's 21, with 7 draws.

We did the double over the Lions last season. Both 1-0 wins with a spectacular shot (cross?) from Yuta Nakayama in the 9th minute giving us the home win in October. And then in March, under the new management of Neil Warnock, we won down at the Den with Danny Ward scoring his first goal of the calendar year. His goal against PNE on Tuesday was only his third (from 23 games).

Meanwhile, our other striker, Jordan Rhodes has 13 in 18 appearances for Blackpool in the first half of this season. I know it's League One, but surely he has to be recalled in January. If only to give us some kind of goal scoring threat in the 3rd Division next season. Rolleyes

Anyway, Wardy's goal came after he came on as a second half sub, replacing Martyn Waghorn.

The last six games in this series have all been wins to nil. The last two as mentioned were 1-0 to Town. The season before saw a 1-0 home win (Jonathan Hogg scored!!) and a 2-0 away defeat. Then the seaon before during lockdown saw us win 3-0 at the Den, with goals from Josh Koroma, Pipa and Lewis O'Brien. But that was followed by a 1-0 home defeat with Scott Malone scoring.

So what's going on down Cold Blow Lane? Managed nowadays by Joe Edwards, who according to his Wikipedia page is a product of Chelsea's youth academy since the age of 8, and worked his way up their youth categories. He was released by the club at the age of 16.

Instead of throwing his boots in the bin like some kids who get rejected at a young age, he started taking his coaching badges and was invited to coach the under 8s at Chelsea. He eventually worked his way up to be the coach of the u18s and then the u23s, so would've been involved with some of the star names that we have had the pleasure of watching at HTFC. Names like Kasey Palmer, Izzy Brown, Trevoh Chalobah and Tino Anjorin, would all have come under Edwards' influence at some stage in their early careers.

He became their Loan Manager for a short while, in 2016/17, and so would've watched quite a few Town matches that season.

He's also been involved with the England youth set ups and then in 2019 he became assistant manager to Frank Lampard. After Frank got the push, he stayed on as assistant to Thomas Tuchel, being part of the backroom team when they won the Champions League.

He'd been with Chelsea in one way or another for 27 years when in 2022 he left to become Lampard's assistant at Everton. But Frank got the sack again and so the pair of them returned to Stamford Bridge in April this year when the Blues potted Graham Potter. That was just til the end of the season though.

Edwards wasn't out of work for long. He became interim Head Coach of the England u20s in August. But then in November, he was appointed Head Coach at Millwall, following on from Gary Rowett who had been at the club for four years.

December the 16th down the ages: How did we get on in previous matches played on this date?

Two fantastic away wins from the David Wagner era on this date. A wonderful Friday night win on Sky Sports down at Norwich in 2016. Elias Kachunga scored both goals in a 2-1 victory.

The following year, in the Premier League, we won down at Watford. This time it was an emphatic 4-1 win, with the Hornets stung by the brilliance of Collin Quaner. Kachunga scored the first, before Aaron Mooy made it 2-0. Laurent Depoitre made it three in the second half and then Mooy scored from the spot after Watford threatened a come back, which never came.

Can't believe how we have sunk so much since those heady days. Sad
