I'm sure he did. If we are re-starting our reserve side next season for developmental reasons, someone like Kev on the staff as player and mentor would be a huge help. I saw him play for Chesterfield at 16 and 17, double-marked by tough tackling defenders. It was obvious even as a kid he was our danger man and he took a lot of hammer for it.
When people think of him as a bruiser they haven't seen what he put up with at a point in his career when most of his age group were playing in a very different kind of football, with lads, not the men Kev faced. And when critics question his skill it's a pity they can't be shown the close skills he displayed for us under really tough conditions.
Preston fans should appreciate him while they've got chance. I'd love him to come back to Chesterfield.
Young players we get aren't likely to be full of confidence. Most will have missed out with bigger clubs. The Blades told Kev' he wouldn't make it, he'll know how they feel and provide an example how it's possible to go all the way from Chesterfield to an England cap. Ilkeston is a club re-born on just this kind of youngster. Steve Chettle's bringing more players through down there than most league sides. A Kevin Davies would be pretty inspiring. How about it Kev? Time to come home?
