You say that but in reality the big clubs have nearly always been the big clubs!! Only 23 teams have ever won the top division in England and if you say take it from the beginning of the 70s, then only 11 teams have won it!! Thats 11 teams in the last 45 years!! Also, in that list Derby, Leeds, Villa Forest and Blackburn would be considered almost one team wonders, never to repeat the feat that team did.
Since the early 60s, we have challenged for the title only twice, 1960-61 and 1991-92, aside from that our only hope of glory was a cup final or maybe european football. Nothing has really changed in that respect for nearly all the teams in English football. What is getting harder though is the ability to move up through the leagues and in particular that jump from the Championship to the Prem, and then staying there!! That is where the money difference really shows!! But it can still be done!!
