I saw Chuck Berry play live in Manchester. He wasn't that good, rather desultory, but still there were huge calls for an encore at the end. The calls died down. No-one re-appeared. The calls re-doubled. Kid Jensen bounced on stage and announced, "No encore folks, Chuck's split!" Kid sprinted from the stage as every rocker down the front hurled a beer bottle or some other form of detritus at him. Excellent spontaneity and the highlight of the evening.
