How many times has this happened to us. Our players have reasonable league performances and success, get called up, great honour, play well, increase their value and we lose them, unsettling / unbalancing the team,
They play poorly, lose confidence, dip in form, dropped points for us,
They play, get injured, we lose them, we do not have a squad of twenty five internationals with which to buy the league, our team quality, balance, performance drops.
Perhaps it's time to stop playing international matches during a domestic season. Season ends at the end of may, play internationals in June, two weeks off start of July, teams return for pre season training mid july, season starts late August. Without the constant international breaks and disruption to a clubs form and good runs of results, the season will still finish at the same time.
International FA's should have to have insurance that compensates clubs for loss of players due to issues caused by international call ups. Difficult to legislate for a team like us that may miss out on promotion because of international injuries, how do you prove we would have made the playoffs let alone achieve promotion. How do you measure financial damage caused by not getting promotion. But clubs like us suffer immeasurable operating damage.
