I don't think there was an ideal choice amongst the three of them TBH SCO. Humza has been democratically elected by SNP members, but in reality it looks like Ash Regan's participation has fragmented the vote for Kate Forbes to win this election outright. Regan's facial expression, immediately after the formal announcement, conveyed that realisation re scuppering KF's hopes. Note public opinion gave Forbes "the nod" by about 10-12 pc pts. However, I reckon Forbes was relieved to miss out anyway - based on her reaction after the formal result! She was very happy to see Humza in place! His election effectively keeps the Green Party "on board" with the Scot govt. So no political stooshie, the SNP hierarchy get their preferred candidate, a case of continue regardless with a revised Cabinet. However, there will be divided opinion (many people want root n branch change, others not!) re his political capabilities and how he progresses from here - a case of give him a chance, wait n see. He has scope just now to "kick the can down the road" re Scottish independence, but he has to embrace all the indy factions and procrastination will only be tolerated for a finite period. We'll also find out soon enough if he is another "talker" or hopefully a man of action. Whether he is a true leader in such a prestigious position is another matter! Only time will tell.
