My granny used to live near there (towards dumfries), so i spent a bit of time down that area when i was a boy. Fond memories of lots of great walks, bike rides and fishing trips.
Caerlaverock castle is worth a look, as is the nature reserve. Also cant remember the name but theres an iron age hill fort near by too with great views, and Bruces cave where he hid from the english during the wars of independence.
If you are into cycling there are some great trails along the solway firth. Annan itself is a lovely wee town, don't know much about the football team though.
