I've got a feeling that if cash were invented tomorrow, almost everyone would welcome it as the most brilliant idea ever. Covid came as near to killing cash as video came with the radio star.
I for one don't notice what I'm spending on my cards. I do notice my expenditure if I take out £100 in cash and find I'm down to £10. Luckily I'm fairly well off, but I think that not only does the cashless society thrust thousands of people into poverty, it also makes ridiculous price hikes acceptable, because we do not feel we are really paying until our accounts are verging on empty.
